I dreamed I saw Joe Deal last night

Alive as you and me

Says I “But Joe I’ve heard that you are dead”

“No that is a rumor” smiled he.


攝影豬昨晨電郵告知，新地誌攝影運動的旗手Joe Deal在6月18日因癌症逝世，終年63歲。噩耗傳來，只感一片昏黑。轉復過來後上網搜索，在Google上全無報導。我希望不是因為在名氣方面他及不上Robert Adams, Lewis Baltz, Nicholas Nixon等人，而是有關消息只是謠傳而已。

    噢, 在wikipedia 也找不到他, 只有關於 New Topographics 的介紹.

    Joe Deal, a noted photographer and former dean of the Washington University school of art, died Friday (June 18, 2010) in Providence, R.I. He was 62.

    Mr. Deal, who died after a long battle with cancer, served as dean of the art school from 1989 to 1999 and played an important role in the creation of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.

    謝謝Alex和攝影豬的資料補充, 也謝謝小丁的熱心. 對於Joe Deal, 我有太多的情意結, 也許將來會再多說一些. 值得一提的是, 去年劉清平找吳世傑對談時, 吳列出了20本最愛的攝影書, Deal的Between Nature and Culture是其中之一.
